Beaulieu's Mobile Swap Shop
Sharing Memories
In Winter 2011/12 the National Motor Museum sent out a Mobile Swap Shop to tour around the New Forest. It traveled round with the Mobile Library service, as well as setting up in Lymington and Lyndhurst community centres.
Containing some of the Museum's smaller objects (the Rolls-Royce wouldn't fit), this Swap Shop was open to visitors to look, touch and smell (we drew the line at taste) these objects.
At the Swap Shop, we see these objects as pieces of motoring and social history and so we used them to stimulate conversations around peoples' own motoring memories and stories, from behind the wheel or in the passenger seat!
The Swap Shop's only policy is that memories can be an hour or decades old! Click on the picture below to discover what memories and stories the swap shop gathered...you never know what you might hear!

Heritage100
Beaulieu's Mobile Swap Shop is being sent out by the National Motor Museum as part of the Hampshire & Solent Museum Alliance Heritage100 project . www.heritage100.org.uk is a website jam packed full of exciting objects from the museums and archives in the Hampshire and Solent region. In order to spread the word, creative practitioners have been out and about in the community taking objects with them to engage with the community. To see what they have been doing, check out the website!
